About Us

Foster care is in our blood

Our History

New Mercy Outreach was founded in 2019 by Ashantia Ginn. They placed their first child in foster care in 2020 and have never looked back.

For Ginn, starting New Mercy was inevitable. Caring for children in the foster care system is in her blood. Her parents welcomed foster kids into their home while Ginn and her brothers were growing up.

“Fostering was a part of my life,” Ginn said. “We consider it as a ministry, you know, as helping others.”

Her experience growing up with foster siblings led her to major in social work at Ashland University and go on to earn her master’s degree in social work from Ohio State University in 2008.

Ginn became a foster parent herself in 2013, later adopting several of the children she had been fostering. Two of Ginn’s brothers and three aunts have become foster parents over the years. Providing a loving home for kids in need is truly a family affair.

After years working at other foster care agencies, Ginn finally decided to take a leap of faith and start her own agency.

“I want New Mercy to be an ‘umbrella’,” Ginn said. “I don’t want New Mercy to be just seen as solely a foster care agency, but like a ministry. And then I want to pull different branches of services out of that.”

Ginn is still active in bringing her vision to life. New Mercy currently offers a clothing closet and access to community health workers. But she has a vision for so much more.

Why We Do What We Do

Many prospective and current foster care parents have all the heart to give these kids but are under-resourced and not properly supported. This reality ends up making really amazing foster parents feel unsure and questioning if fostering is the right path after all. Every child deserves to have a great parent in their life. God’s mercy allows for this second chance and a great home for these children.

We get it. Parenting is hard on its own. But parenting someone else’s child through fostering is a whole different level. But, we know from experience, it is worth it.

We understand the rollercoaster of emotions that come with being a foster parent – from the mountain of paperwork at the beginning all the way through to having a child placed in your home – because we live it ourselves. Our staff has decades of combined  years serving in the foster care system as foster siblings, foster parents, case workers and every other role you can imagine.

That’s why we’ve built New Mercy Outreach differently. When you become a foster parent at NMO you will never feel like you are alone on an island. We walk with you every step of the way, with clarity, mercy and love.

You will have help completing the formal application and training process. But you will also find amazing support and community from other NMO foster parents and staff every day, including access to a 24/7 crisis line for those moments when you just don’t know what to do!

If you have ever wondered if you could make a difference in a child’s life, give us a call today.

Stop wondering what it would be like to make a difference in a kid’s life. Start living it! Not only will you get a front row seat to seeing a kid blossom and become their true selves, but you will see your whole family be transformed for the better when you open your heart and your home through foster care.
