Community Health Workers

At New Mercy Outreach, we are honored to provide exceptional love and care through our foster program to children and families experiencing crisis. But we recognize that there’s much work to be done to help prevent crisis moments for families. That’s why we’ve developed the programs below because our work is greater than foster care – it’s loving families.

Program 1 : Clothing Closet

Sometimes something as simple as a new outfit to wear can bring so much joy to someone’s day. That’s what we want to offer through our free clothing closet for the community.

Individuals and families can shop the clothing closet with a scheduled appointment Monday – Friday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. (except on holidays).

To ensure we can serve as many people as possible, we limit shopping to 2 complete outfits per household. Once the outfit has left the clothing closet we cannot take it back or exchange it.

The clothing closet is available for both kids and adults. You must schedule an appointment ahead of time by calling 567-560-9021 and be able to present your ID (driver’s license, state ID, school ID, mail with address etc.) the day of your appointment. Visitors are eligible to receive assistance once every three months.

Program 2 : Summer Programs

If you’re worried about what to do when school’s out or if you’re looking for kid-friendly activities to do this summer, New Mercy can connect you with the right summer program.

The summer program provides kids hands-on activities like arts and crafts, kickball, and other games. Devotions are planned for those interested and breakfast and lunch are provided.

Program 3 : Community
Health Workers

There is a reality where connecting those in need with actual community resources that can help them can be a blurry exchange. Community Health Workers (CHWs) act as the go-between, ensuring those that require services are actually connected with those that can assist and dramatically impact the day-to-day lives of children.

Because the CHWs have a wealth of knowledge and experience, and have seen the results first hand, they can act as advocates and monitor the process the entire way through. When people need CHWs help the most, it’s amazing that they are available to assist.

With needs for each individual varying, and understanding there is no one-size-fits all approach to providing love and care to individuals and families  in need, there is no single set of activities that CHWs can do.

When a CHW meets with a participant, they work together to identify what exactly should be the next steps, geared towards solutions. Then the individual can choose what goals to work toward.

Some common examples of resources that CHWs assist with include

Pre- and post-natal education and support including supplies for mom and baby

Obtaining medical insurance
Obtaining IDs

Employment and housing

Transportation to medical and WIC appointments
Food and clothing resources
Linking to Mental Health Providers and Support

That is not the whole list! CHWs can do so much more! Each person has their own story and situation. CHWs will meet with each participant personally to evaluate needs and attempt to find resources to support them.

And the best part, is all CHW services are provided at no cost to the participant.
